Larder Tick
A dog-sized tick that hangs in the Broodmother's larder among the wrapped bundles and waits for something warm to pass. It does not chase. It fastens, and its mouthparts are barbed backward so that pulling it off leaves them in you - and its spit keeps the wound open and burning so the blood keeps coming, through armor, through any guard you raise. Every mouthful it takes it puts straight into its own hide, swelling tight and glossy until a blade just slides. It is full of your blood and your warmth, and the cold cannot find it.
