Boss

The Quench

The Quench portrait

A great flooded stone basin that has swallowed every fire ever carried down here. It draws its lid over itself so small hits die on the stone, then drinks its own wounds closed, so damage arriving a little at a time never really arrives at all. Its cold settles into your sword-arm between blows, and the next strikes land soft. Even conjured mana gutters in its damp — every spark a card kindles is snuffed against your skin. Break it under 40% and the lid comes off for good: it stops mending and just pours. Its cold has one more habit: it settles into the wrist between blows, so every edge you patiently whet on it comes up blunt — only a fifth of the Hone you put in is still there when you swing.

Boss 166 HP hits for up to 25 8.4 damage per turn on average

Tuned against

This boss is built to punish the Poise deck. It never stands at the end of Descent I against that deck; from Descent II on, bring something else, or bring an answer.

Keywords on this page
🛡 Guard
Absorbs incoming damage. Resets at the start of its turn.
❄️ Chill
This unit's next attack deals HALF — one stack is spent per attack.
🗡️ Hone
At turn's end, gain that much Edge — but only if you played 2 or fewer cards this turn. A third card forfeits all of it. Some foes dull your blade and cut what you bank, which is why the card says "up to".
